Medieval Armenian Sibylline Traditions comprising the “Defloratio Berosi” of Giovanni Nanni

(Johannes Annius) (§§884-891)

  1. Go to §885, below, >>, for a translation of the Defloratio Berosi, and to §891, below, >>, for the original Latin. The Defloratio Berosi Chaldaica, to give it its full title, was divided into five books. These, according to Nanni’s preface to the Defloratio (fol. CIVb), were addressed in their original form to the Athenians, and were intended to correct perceived errors in their accounts of ancient history. Berossus is known to have been well received by philosophers in Athens towards the end of his life, after he had moved his residence from Babylon to the Aegean island of Cos. (Pliny, Nat Hist. VII. xxxvii [123].) The Defloratio differed in the above respects from the “Babyloniaka” of Berossus, several excerpts of which have been preserved by ancient authors: the “Babyloniaka” was divided into three books, not five, and was dedicated to Antiochus II Theos, the king of Seleucid Babylon when Berossus was still present in that city, before he moved to Cos and was honored at Athens. This is one of the principal reasons why the Defloratio was rejected in the Renaissance: it was presumed it was claiming to be the “Babyloniaka” of Berossus, and it was known from the surviving fragments of the latter that the presumption was mistaken. However, the Hebrew Sibyl known as the “daughter Berossus” may well have drawn on the writings of her priestly “father,” including the sources of the “Babyloniaka,” to compose “Summary Extracts (Defloratio) from Berosus (Berosi),” — as the title of the work should perhaps be translated, — of relevance to the historical inquiries of the Athenians. It was alleged the Hebrew Sibyl was born in Syria of Manasseh (a Hebrew name) by Papilia, a female related to Alexander of Macedon, and that she migrated subsequently to Cumae in Italy. (Vaticinium Sibyllae, MGH SS 22, p. 376.) The Sibylline hypothesis is reasonable: it harmonizes with what we know otherwise of her work. The chief reasons for classing the Defloratio Berosi as a medieval Sibylline fragment are, therefore, as follows:

ENGLISH TRANSLATION OF THE DEFLORATIO BEROSI CHALDAICA.

884.6. The original Latin of the Defloratio Berosi follows the translation at §891, below, >>. The first section of the translation, through the earlier part of Book Five of the Defloratio, is by Salverté (Essai historique et philosophique sur les noms d’hommes, de peuples et de lieux, E. Salverté, tome II, Paris 1824, p. 369ff.), as translated from French into English by Mordaque, and modified here, on occasion, to correct obvious errors, or to reflect the original better; the remainder of Book Five, left untranslated by Salverté, and therefore also by Mordaque, is my own rendering. The English translation of Salverté by Mordaque is from the “History of the Names of Men, Nations and Places, in their connection with the Progress of Civilization. Translated from the French of Eusebius Salverté by Rev. L. H. Mordaque, M.A., Oxon.,” vol II, London 1864, p. 295ff. Salverté’s translation was of the text of the Defloratio Berosi itself, as transcribed by Nanni from the book obtained in Armenia and given to him in Italy by the monk George. Salverté did not translate Nanni’s commentary on the Defloratio Berosi. The Defloratio Berosi and the accompanying commentary forms Book XV of Nanni’s Antiquitates. Nanni’s extensive commentary is not included in this translation either, except in a few instances, so references in “The Six Days of Creation” to the Defloratio (in the 1512 edition of the Antiquitates in Latin, published by Joannes Paruus and Jodocus Badius), or to other sections of the Antiquitates not found here, can be presumed to be part of the commentary on the Defloratio itself, or to be extracted from other works and/or accompanying commentaries contained in the Antiquitates. My own notes are contained within braces { }.

  1. “THE FIRST BOOK

Before the well-known disaster by which the whole world perished beneath the waters, many centuries had elapsed, the records of which have been faithfully preserved by our Chaldeans. According to their writings, there lived in those days a race of giants, in a city of great size, called Enos {= Enoch} near Mount Lebanon, which was the seat of empire over the whole world, from the rising of the sun to its setting. Trusting in their strength and colossal size, these giants made themselves weapons, and oppressed their neighbors all around. Wholly given up to a life of indulgence, they invented tents, instruments of music, and everything which contributes to pleasure. Does Recently (2012) Declassified Data Falsify Plate Tectonics?

FOR USE ONLY WITH FEATURE STORY, NOT FOR COMMERCIAL STOCK Bathymetric model of the North Atlantic. 3-D satellite and bathymetry model showing the topography of the Earth’s crust over the North Atlantic. Iceland (centre) sits on a central-oceanic ridge that is extremely volcanically active. Lava pushing up beneath this ridge forces the North American plate (left) and the Eurasian plate (lower right) apart. This process is known as plate tectonics. This image was created by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) using measurments from the ERS-1 satellite.

AP EDITOR INTRODUCTION: In the past ‘Continental Drift’ was not popular and considered a fairy tale. But then it was recently proven that indeed the continents had drifted away from each other. Therefore the ‘scientists’ were hard up to find a scientific solution to this phenomenon. And so they came up with “Plate tectonics” as a recent initial ‘explanation’ to the enigma of the continents looking like they fit together. Plate tectonics has certain components that are based on guesswork, like subduction for example. The “subduction” theory surmised that the continental plates would slip under other plates and bend downward and melt in the magma under the plates, where as at other places the plates would come and be formed from under other plates. Then comes along Dr. Smoot who mapped the earth’s entire ocean floor over 35 years and discovered that subduction does not happen at all, and the theory is bogus. WHY do Darwinian scientists hold on to the theory? Because the only other theory that is observed and does make sense is the so-called ‘Hydroplate Theory’ of Dr. Walt Brown, but blasted, “Brown is a creationist.” Voila! That’s why they hold on to a disproven theory. Enjoy Dr. Walt Brown’s And Smoot’s explanation:

By Dr. Walt Brown

Ocean floors constitute 70% of earth’s solid surface. They were largely unexplored between 1957 and 1970, when the plate tectonic (PT) theory was developed. It was frequently said that we knew more about Mars than about the ocean floor. As a result, the PT theory, which primarily attempts to explain features on the ocean floor, was developed in the blind, without the data needed to formulate it or test it. Why then was plate tectonics accepted with enthusiasm?

A Brewing Crisis. Before PT, the only theory that tried to explain earth’s major surface features was the 1912 continental drift theory. It claimed, as its name implies, that the amazing and obvious jig-saw fit of the east coast of the Americas with the west coast of Europe and Africa is because the continents drifted apart. No one knew why a supercontinent broke apart or how the pieces could move. Did thousands of miles of solid rock plow through thousands of miles of solid rock? Why couldn’t the earth-science experts explain the fit that the public could plainly see? (You who have read pages 110434, now understand all that—and much more.) Tomb of Gilgamesh Found in Uruk! By Wikipedia Damned Euhemerism Vindicated Again!

Wow! This was big news! Shocking! Gilgamesh turns out to be more than fiction or myth, contrary to what academia has been pushing for a century. Gilgamesh was a real person and they found his tomb, just as it was said in the epic, built under the course of the Euphrates River! It only got a little mention in the BBC (in One Minute World News) where Uruk – the origin of eponymous Iraq!

NOTE how the BBC says “believed found!” If it was “Lucy’s” bones found over a couple square kilometers, they’d say, “definite proof of humanoid primate!” See, it all depends on what they want you to believe.

In this case the find of Gilgamesh tomb ought to be called the find of the decade or of the 21st century, as yet another ancient literary source (2300 BC) turns out to be historical and less “mythological” than widely assumed. Uruk was the first city? Responsible for most first inventions, like writing, law, education, taxes, love songs, ethics, justice, agriculture, medicine, love and family? Wow, that early?

But inspite of all these proven first inventions, mainstream historians don’t trust Sumer’s own historical writings and denounce them as fictitious mythology without any core of truth. After all they were the immdiate descendents of stupid cavemen and hunter gatherers! And Euhemerism is ‘a bad bad method of doing history!’ For sure!!

Flavius Josephus on Adam, the 10 Kings, Noah, the Flood, Earth’s Repopulation, & Tower of Babel

CHAPTER 2.

CONCERNING THE POSTERITY OF ADAM, AND THE TEN GENERATIONS FROM HIM TO THE DELUGE,

1. ADAM and Eve had two sons: the elder of them was named Cain; which name, when it is interpreted, signifies a possession: the younger was Abel, which signifies sorrow. They had also daughters. Now the two brethren were pleased with different courses of life: for Abel, the younger, was a lover of righteousness; and believing that God was present at all his actions, he excelled in virtue; and his employment was that of a shepherd. But Cain was not only very wicked in other respects, but was wholly intent upon getting; and he first contrived to plough the ground. He slew his brother on the occasion following : – They had resolved to sacrifice to God. Now Cain brought the fruits of the earth, and of his husbandry; but Abel brought milk, and the first-fruits of his flocks: but God was more delighted with the latter oblation, (6) when he was honored with what grew naturally of its own accord, than he was with what was the invention of a covetous man, and gotten by forcing the ground; whence it was that Cain was very angry that Abel was preferred by God before him; and he slew his brother, and hid his dead body, thinking to escape discovery. But God, knowing what had been done, came to Cain, and asked him what was become of his brother, because he had not seen him of many days; whereas he used to observe them conversing together at other times. But Cain was in doubt with himself, and knew not what answer to give to God. At first he said that he was himself at a loss about his brother’s disappearing; but when he was provoked by God, who pressed him vehemently, as resolving to know what the matter was, he replied, he was not his brother’s guardian or keeper, nor was he an observer of what he did. But, in return, God convicted Cain, as having been the murderer of his brother; and said, “I wonder at thee, that thou knowest not what is become of a man whom thou thyself hast destroyed.” God therefore did not inflict the punishment [of death] upon him, on account of his offering sacrifice, and thereby making supplication to him not to be extreme in his wrath to him; but he made him accursed, and threatened his posterity in the seventh generation. He also cast him, together with his wife, out of that land. And when he was afraid that in wandering about he should fall among Wild beasts, and by that means perish, God bid him not to entertain such a melancholy suspicion, and to go over all the earth without fear of what mischief he might suffer from wild beasts; and setting a mark upon him, that he might be known, he commanded him to depart. The Role of Bias in the Origins Debate – Video by Brian Forbes + Powerpoint

By Brian Forbes

I aim to show that any evidence presented to us will invariably take a back seat to the fertility of the soil in our hearts. It is our bias that determines what we are able to see and accept for evidence.

Bias defined:  An emotional inclination to a particular view. Bias will often influence how you accept or reject evidence. Any position that has allowed for human evaluation will include bias. The question is not if there is bias. The question is what does your bias support. …and I can prove it.

Science is supposed to be based in objectivity – raw facts that lead to unemotional conclusions. The scientific method can be traced through:

  • René Descartes – who rid his mind of all bias
  • Francis Bacon – who described science in terms of cause and effect (experiments)
  • Karl Popper – falsifiability

They defined how we can know things without appealing to feeling. They set limits for “science” or knowledge. If it ain’t falsifiable,
it ain’t science. WATCH! Continue reading The Role of Bias in the Origins Debate – Video by Brian Forbes + Powerpoint

“The Eight” Flood Survivors in Global Deluge Legends A Shared Human Memory

A big percentage of the – by now – over 700 global Flood legends, mentioned exactly eight people who were spared and survived. It is uncanny that this number is handed down as fact so uniformly, instead of ten or five or some other random number.

EGYPT: In ancient Egypt one Flood hero was Toth who survived the Deluge along with his Seven Sages.

The Egyptian ‘Ogdoad (does the Latin word for 8 ‘octo’ from that?) were a group of eight survivors led by the main character Nun and his wife Naunet. Nun or Nu (Noah) is pictured in Egyptian art as upholding his boat with the seven other survivors here:

WHERE NOAH’S ARK LANDED

By Robert Bowie jr.

I had the good fortune of coming across the book, The Stars: A New Way to See Them by H. A. Rey some time ago. Rey’s book helped me understand the relationship between the earth’s daily rotation, its yearly revolution around the sun, and the place and appearance of the constellations. When I share my knowledge of the night sky with others, I begin by asking if anyone in the group can find the North Star because it is our frame of reference for what appears elsewhere. Almost invariably, someone in the group says, “The North Star is the brightest star, right?” Polaris is certainly visible to the naked eye, but as a second magnitude star in Ursa Minor, it is very far from the brightest, the Dog Star Sirius. There is no logical reason to assume that the earth’s axis conveniently points to the brightest star, yet people make that unwarranted assumption quite often.

A similar illogical and unwarranted assumption prevails relating to the landing spot of Noah’s ark. People—highly educated people—are sure that Noah’s ark landed on the remote and inaccessible heights of Mount Ararat, a 17,000-foot volcanic mountain in modern-day Turkey. The Book of Genesis does not say that the ark landed near the top of Ararat, or even on Ararat, but rather “on the mountains of Ararat” (Genesis 8:4).

Did You Ever Hear @ the Nuraghe Giants of Sardinia? Of course not! You were not supposed to know!

I am really into forbidden archaeology, historical cover-ups like Atlantis, The Flood, the recent Ice Age, Creation believed on by most of the ancients, exposing the over-promotion of the Darwinian NON theory, the 65 million extinction lie of the Dinosaurs, the suppression of pre Columbian cross oceanic travel, the earliest discovery of America by the Chinese, the academic ignoring of the megalithic over the non existent paleo- and neolithic, promotion of cavemen over smarter, stronger, and longer living early post Flood humans, etc and the true existence of suppressed giants!

I had heard about lots of discoveries of real giants, all over the world, and their suppression by academia and the Smithsonian Institute, but up until 2 weeks ago, I had never heard of an actual country and civilisation of giants in the middle of Europe, who left behind giant forts, towers, graves, and more. I just learned about the Nuraghi/Nuraghe of Sardegna, the island below Corsica next to Italy! See the multiple locations on the Sardinian map! Astounding! And it was all suppressed by the Powers That (shouldn’t) Be! the mainstream historians of course obfuscate them as Stone Age people. Aw…such poor puppies, these propagandised historians.

I don’t know much about them yet, other than that the local Sardegnians knew about these giants all along, held coming-of-age ceremonies for heir young men inside the scary precincts of these dead giants’ structures, and also knew that their local government and officials downplayed the giant aspect of them who are probably officially sworn to secrecy about them by the Darwinian regime, not being allowed to spread that news. Kensington Rune Stone Cryptography- More ‘Academia’ Suppressed Proof of Pre-Columbian Travel to America

Why is Academia – some call it quackademia! – fighting pre-Columbian cross Atlantic travel from the Old World, like the dickens? This kensington Rune Stone was actually from 1362 AD, only 130 years before Christopher Columbus. What is all the fuzz  about a mere 130 years before Columbus? A mere second in eternity?

What is their beef? Are they Portuguese nationalists who prefer the discovery of the Western continents by one of their own? Or are they so in love with Columbus that any other person or entity before him  just doesn’t cut the cake to be the “discoverer?” No! Nothing to do with their real motivation.

For now  let me tell you why! Academia just does NOT ALLOW PRE-Columbian Cross Atlantic travel for pure ideological or religious reasons. We’ll explain more about that later, but first watch this interesting short video about how the stone was found and proven authentic by geologic research and cross-cultural research in Gotha Sweden that used the exact same rune script. Yet the owners of the “higher halls of learning” has coined it a hoax, simply because “it was just too early!”VIDEO MUST WATCH
