JCU bans Prof Peter Ridd from criticizing scientific institutions. Defiant, he refuses, fights on!

ANCIENT PATRIARCHS EDITOR COMMENTS:

THIS HAPPENS IN HISTORY SCIENCE TOO

UPDATE: Funding target reached already. Thank you!

I am astonished, very relieved and most importantly incredibly grateful for the support. I would also particularly like to thank Anthony, Jennifer Marohasy, Jo Nova, Willie Soon, Benny Peiser and many others for getting the issue up on blogs and spreading the word.

Kind regards, Peter

JCU is trying (and failing) to gag Peter Ridd from discussing why we can’t trust scientific organisations

Last August Professor Peter Ridd said the unsayable — that we can no longer trust scientific institutions. His employer, James Cook University (JCU) could have explained why they were trustworthy, but instead they fired back with a formal censure and ordered him to be silent, effectively to stop him criticizing the current state of science or scientific institutions. Then knowing exactly how respectable, ethical, and scientific this is, they also ordered him not to mention the censure too. Let’s censor the censure!

If there was a crisis in science, what academic would be allowed to point it out?

It gets dirtier, apparently now they are even trawling through his private emails as well, hunting for more ammunition for their misconduct case. Who’s a bit desperate?

Hypothetically, if there was a crisis in modern science, with a failure to replicate results or a lack objectivity, this could cost the nation billions, risk the reef, slow medical research, and hurt our children, but  JCU have effectively said that no one they employ can talk about it. Does the state of science matter to JCU? Not as much as their right to issue prophecies, no hard questions asked, star on the tellie, and help their favourite political cause. (Science for Big-Government’s sake).

Dr. Henry Bauer, Why We Shouldn’t Trust Science [Esp. Historical Science]

Just under an hour- Absolutely worth listening to! via Skeptiko with many thanks for providing a great interview so freely
Listen Now: Podcast: Play in new window | Download

Henry Bauer: We have to be skeptical about what scientists say, because what scientists tell you is not necessarily the same as what science can tell you.

A selection of quotes from the interview

Henry Bauer: Right, thanks. I was turned on to science in high school and I studied chemistry and I taught chemistry and did research in chemistry [he is emeritus professor of chemistry and science studies, and emeritus dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, “Virginia Tech”]

Henry Bauer: Exactly, thank you. The thing is that even as science is accepted as being the hallmark of a true understanding, the fact of the matter is, the history of science shows quite clearly that scientific consensus, at any point in time, can’t be accepted as absolutely correct. ‘Carbon-14-dated dinosaur bones less than 40,000 years old’ report scrapped from conference website

Carbon-14-dated dinosaur bones are less than 40,000 years old. Researchers have found a reason for the puzzling survival of soft tissue and collagen in dinosaur bones – the bones are younger than anyone ever guessed.  Carbon-14 (C-14) dating of multiple samples of bone from 8 dinosaurs found in Texas, Alaska, Colorado, and Montana revealed that they are only 22,000 to 39,000 years old.

Members of the Paleochronology group presented their findings at the 2012 Western Pacific Geophysics Meeting in Singapore, August 13-17, a conference of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS).

Since dinosaurs are thought to be over 65 million years old, the news is stunning – and more than some can tolerate.  After the AOGS-AGU conference in Singapore, the abstract was removed from the conference website by two chairmen because they could not accept the findings.  Unwilling to challenge the data openly, they erased the report from public view without a word to the authors.  When the authors inquired, they received this letter:

“There is obviously an error in these data. The abstract was apparently noot reviewed properly and was accepted in error. For this reason  we have exercised our authority as program chairs and rescinded the abstract .. will no longer appear on the AOGS web site.” Minhan Dai & Peter Swart.

They did not look at the data and they never spoke with the researchers.  They did not like the test results, so they censored them. Continue reading ‘Carbon-14-dated dinosaur bones less than 40,000 years old’ report scrapped from conference website

Why & How Did Earth’s Pangaea’s Crust Crack! An Ancient Mystery Solved?

by Lu Paradise • December 28, 2012 • 10 Comments  •  1,599 views

The early Earth, we can safely assume, did not start out cracked like this egg from its pristine beginnings.

Scientists now agree that the early Earth featured just one original continent named ‘Pangaea’, reminiscent of Chinese history’s ‘Panku.’ Historians and geologists have no clue what actually hit the Earth’s crust, or how the upper layer of 8 km thick oceanic crust and 35-60 km continental crust got cracked, nor why its fragments or plates then began to drift apart from each other, other than labeling it ‘plate tectonics & subduction’. That’s about as good an explanation as blaming “why there are murders” on “violence.” It does not explain what cracked ‘Pangaea’ in the first place, which would also indicate the real cause of why the continents drifted apart!

This article aims to try to solve this foundational mystery: “Why and how did Pangaea’s crust crack!”
